William Stephen “Steve” Arbogast, 45, a former resident of Mill Creek, and a resident of Montrose for the past several years, passed away at 6:04 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at his residence. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born July 31, 1958, a son of William “Bill” and Janet Skinner Arbogast, who survive in Mill Creek.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a close companion for several years, Maryann Burch of Montrose; and her two children, B.J. Burch and Shasta Burch, both at home; three sisters, Rebecca Gibson and husband, Kim, of Somerset, Pa., Brenda Betler and husband, Stan, of Kingwood, and Kimberly Hammer of Elkins.

Also surviving are six nieces and nephews, Sean and Connor Gibson, Stephanie and Ashley Betler, and Nashua and Brooke Hammer.

He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1976. He was also a graduate of Northwood School of Taxidermy in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Arbogast was employed for 13 years as a coal miner. He owned and operated A1-Wildlife Creations in Mill Creek.

He was a member of the band Route 69. He had the ability to play any instrument and also to play by ear. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was recognized by many people when he won third place in the professional division for his mule deer which he displayed at the Elkins YMCA during the Mountaineer Big Buck Show & Deer Classic and Taxidermy.

He was a member of the St. Brendan Catholic Church. Many people were touched by Steve’s music and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Wednesday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Father William Anderson and the Rev. Verl Simmons will officiate. Interment will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery on the Adolph Road. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for William Stephen “Steve” Arbogast.
