William W. Bud Kelly, 90, a resident of Elkins, passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2021, at the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. He had been a resident there since March of 2019

He was born May 3, 1930, in Charlottesville, Va., a son of the late Hubert Kelly and the late Virginia Goddin Kelly.

He was raised, in part, by his late Grandfather W. B. Goddin and late Grandmother Fannie Mae Fansler Goddin in Charlottesville and Elkins.

He is survived by two daughters, Diane Meadows (Charlie) and Joyce Minor (Bill); and three sons, David Kelly (Patti), Mark Kelly (Betsy), and Doug Kelly (Colleen).

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Jewell Kelly; and his son, Gary E. Kelly. He is also survived by one brother, Tom Kelly; and one sister, Janet McJilton, both of Baltimore Md.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Bud graduated from Elkins High School in 1949 and enjoyed a successful sports career there in football and track. He loved to tell stories of playing for Coach Frank Wimer and held his Coach in the highest regard. As his boys grew up and played sports for EHS, Bud was a staunch supporter and fan of the Tiger sports programs. He logged many hours working on fundraisers and selling popcorn for The EHS Booster Club in the 1970s and 80s.

He started his working career at Wimpy’s Pool Hall racking balls and running errands before working a lifetime for The Kelly Foundry in the Pattern Shop. A true carpenter and woodworker by trade, his work can be found throughout West Virginia, Virginia, and Ohio in the form of the houses he built or remodeled, porches he added-on, or just in the form of a minor repair here and there.

He was a long-time member of Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman and served them faithfully until his ill health kept him from attending. Burial service will be private and due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no celebration of life at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Orlena United Methodist Church, C/o Debbie Isner, 110 Conway Drive, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Bud Kelly. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for William W. Bud Kelly.
