WILLIE EDWARD POLING Willie Edward Poling, 94, of Philippi, formerly of Norton and most recently a patient at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, Belington, died Thursday morning, November 21, 2013, in the Broaddus Hospital, Philippi. He was born May 3, 1919, near Philippi, a son of the late William Monterville and Laura (Skidmore) Poling. On December 25, 1959, he married the former Sylvia Genevieve Bodkins who preceded him in death on October 30, 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Margie Ann Bennett and husband, Danny, Tacy Community, Mary Jane Harris, Beverly; two sons, Melvin Wayne Poling, Manassas, Va., Mark Anthony Poling and wife, Jeanette, Beverly; eight grandchildren, William Russell “Billy” Harris and wife, Liz, Mark Anthony Wilson and wife, Ashley, Michael Edward Poling, Matthew Winfield Poling, Sylvia Joan Poling and fiancé Greg Blake, Brylee LaShea Bennett, McKenna Grace Bennett and Deliliah LeeAnn Bennett; two great grandchildren, Addisyn Renee Wilson and Colt Morgan Harris. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Valley Poling, Mildred Poling and Lillian Stemple; by six brothers, Elbert Poling, Delbert Poling, Everett Poling, Lambert Poling, Leslie Darl Poling and Estes Wilbert Poling; and by nine half-brothers and sisters, Harry, Clyde, Cecil, Rachel, Elsie, Linda, Russell, Grace and Emaline. Mr. Poling was a retired truck driver and was employed in the logging industry. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He attended the Central Chapel United Methodist Church and the Kynette United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Monday, November 25, from the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Avenue, Belington. The Rev. A. H. Belt will officiate and interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be conferred by Barbour County Post #44, American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Monday. Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
