Wilma E. Tenney, age 97 of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Wesbury United Methodist Home in Meadville, PA. She was born April 29, 1915 in Mabie, WV, a daughter of the late Arthur M. and Susan Friel Rowan. On May 24, 1933 she married Harley G. Tenney who preceded her in death on October 19, 1986. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Chesley B. and Otis C. Rowan and three sisters, Carrol A. Bailey, Thelma G. Salsbury, and L. Marguerite Holden. She is survived by two brothers, Delmar F. Rowan of Cowen, WV and Dairel W. Rowan and wife Lois of Meadville; two sisters, Verna L. Cunningham of Somerset, OH and Edna V. Burford of Clarion, PA; several nieces and nephews and also several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Wilma was a resident of Tallmansville, WV for 63 years. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the nursery for 28 years and was a member of Mt. Washington UMC for 50 years where she taught Sunday school and held offices of Secretary and Treasurer. Wilma moved to Meadville in 1996 living in Shryock Apartments before her stay at the Meadville Rehabilitation Assisted Living Facility, Quality Care Center and finally at Wesbury United Methodist Home. While in Meadville, she attended the Meadville Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she was a member for 7 years. Wilma loved the challenge of jig-saw puzzles, many of which were framed for family and friends. She never missed the chance to play Dominoes or Rummikub so long as it included pizza, her all-time favorite food. She loved to read and write poetry. A big thanks is extended to the staff at Wesbury and hospice for their excellent care. Friends will be received Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 1-3 PM at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 3 PM Wednesday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Lester Rowan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery in Buckhannon. A celebration of the life of Wilma/ memorial service will be held in Meadville at the Wesbury United Methodist Community Chapel, Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 2 PM with the Rev. Paul Houseworth officiating. Family has requested that charitable donations be sent to Meadville Wesleyan Methodist Church, 836 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335; Wesbury United Methodist Home, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335; or to the hospice of the donor’s choice. Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
