Wilmer “Tim” Gordon George 1939-2019 Obituary

Wilmer “Tim” Gordon George went home early Friday, December 20, 2019 in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center at Elkins, WV.

He was born on November 15, 1939 at Mabie, WV, a son of the late William “Bill” and Zelda Zirkle George.

On June 21, 1958 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Frances Harris, who preceded him in death on September 26, 2010.

Tim recently celebrated his 80th birthday with friends and family at his side. A product of a bygone generation, Tim was a kind and loving jack-of-all-trades who could put a mean coat of paint on anything with four wheels.

He did everything with a smile.

Tim is survived by one daughter, Beverly R. White, of Belington; grandson, Brian D. George, of Takoma Park, MD; five additional grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, one brother; Richard Lee George and wife Mary of Norton, WV.

Tim is preceded in death by his wife, Mary F. George (nee Harris), and his son, Wilmer “Timmy” Gordon George, Jr. and two sisters.

Raised in Randolph County, Tim spent the better part of 60 years on Locust Avenue in Belington, where he raised his family and could always be found (after work) on the front porch swing.

During the days, Tim worked as an auto body repair man at various body shops and garages in Elkins from the late 1950’s through the early 2000’s.

During the evenings, Tim could be found in his home garage working on cars.

On the weekends, Tim could be found in the garden, cutting firewood, fishing, hunting, or snoozing in his favorite recliner.

On Sundays, Tim would be at church; he was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Junior, WV.

Known by his grandchildren as “Papaw,” he will be missed. Today, Papaw is back on the front porch, in his favorite swing, with Grandma and Timmy by his side.

Tim’s request for Cremation will be honored. The family will receive Friends at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N Brandenburg Street in Belington. Interment of his cremains will be at a later date.
