Woodrow Richard “Bunk” Bennett, 87, of River Avenue, Weston, formerly of Cleveland Mountain, died at Stonewall Jackson Hospital at Weston, Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at 11:55 p.m.

He was born Feb. 8, 1916, at Kanawha Head, a son of the late Tom and Ida Riffle Bennett.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Hester Herndon Bennett, whom he married March 31, 1940.

Also surviving are 13 children, Grey Andrew of St. Marys, Mona Cook of Adrian, Sue Gould of Buckhannon, Arnett Bennett of Maryland, Bruce Bennett of Buckhannon, Ben Bennett of Ohio, Sandy Wilfong of Smithfield, Priscilla Halbert of Louisiana, Grace Riffle of Buckhannon, Vicky Miller of Buckhannon, Wease Bennett of Philippi, and Candy Wamsley of Ohio.

Mr. Bennett has 49 grandchildren and several great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by one brother, Stanley Wilt of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Bell, Garnet, Liz, Frankie, Mamie, Malbe and Tina; and two brothers, Dana and Orlando.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 of Buckhannon. A special thanks to God for saving his soul, the staff at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Dr. Orvick, Pastor David Jessie, Pastor David Phillips, Pastor Hank Sharrow, the Rock Cave Baptist Church, Robert Vincent Funeral Home, and all those that sit with him and cared for his needs while in the hospital

Mr. Bennett loved his family and loved hunting.

Friends will be received at Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home at French Creek today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Jessie and Pastor David Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery at Kanawha Head. Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
