Mr. Woodrow William Hedrick, age 79 years, a resident of Elkins and a former resident of Glady, WV passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Sunday, October 2, 2011. He had been in failing health, but death was unexpected. He was born November 20, 1931 in Brood, WV, a son of the late Isom and Elva Hedrick. He had never married. Woodrow is survived by one daughter, Marlene White Arbogast and husband Sherman of Beverly. Five grandchildren, Dominic, Anthony, Brayden, Briella and Brynnlee and two step grandchildren, Morgan and Dusty who enjoyed lawnmower rides with “Papaw”. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Sites and husband Harold “Punk” Sites, of Archdale, NC, formerly of Whitmer and Judy Rhodes of Elkins with whom he made his home. One brother, Willie Hedrick and wife Carolyn of Glady and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and looked to him as a father figure also survive as well as his “sugar puddin” Alice Cooper and his furry companion Gracie who he called Doggie Buttons. Also preceding him in death were two older sisters, Evelyn Harper and Gail Cooper and a younger brother Dale Hedrick.

Mr. Hedrick served seven years in the United States Army and was a bus operator for the Randolph County Schools for over twenty one years. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family who enjoyed his jokes, his stories of the “old days” and his overall wisdom and wit. He attended the Gospel Light Tabernacle.

Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 6th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. A.H. Belt officiating. Interment will follow in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Woodrow William Hedrick.
